ABOUT PAWS + CLAWS PHOTOGRAPHY

I’m a dorky dog mom who loves capturing your wild/not-so-wild creatures family members.

HOW THIS ALL BEGAN

From taking portraits of my Beanie Babies to this in only 27 short years.

Yep, it’s true, that’s how dorky I was as a kid. I’d make a nice backdrop with a blanket, like those old Sears portrait studios, and set up my Beanie Babies one by one and snap away – multiple angles too! And yep, it was the ’90s so that was all on film. Oh, and I’d order duplicates to give to my cousin, too. I bet that used to run my grandpa at least $40 weekly in film developing costs, though he never mentioned it.

My grandpa gave me my first camera around this age, a little 35mm film point and shoot. It was black and tan, a Bell + Howell. Since I took my first picture, I was hooked.

But even though I still loved taking photos as I got older – eventually moving onto a Pentax MG and then my first “pro-ish” Canon years later – I always thought it wasn’t a job that would be possible for me to do. For other people, yes. For me, no way. I wasn’t creative enough or talented enough or business-savvy enough (that last part was true at first LOL).

Eventually I realized being a photographer isn’t about “talent,” it’s about practice. Dedication. Learning. Improving slowly. And, ultimately, creating something people want to buy from you. In my case, combined with my natural love for animals of all kinds, that’s powerful portraits of your furry friend(s) to have forever. πŸ™‚

PHOTOGRAPHER // WRITER // CREATIVE WEIRDO

Dogs are my favourite people.

As for me, you could say I have my hands full. I’m a mom to twins who just started kindergarten. I’m a B2B software copywriter and ex-marketing agency strategist. I run a print shop for custom clothing and hard goods. I have a YouTube channel and free newsletter for creatives and freelancers where I give valuable business tips, marketing ideas, and mindset advice learned from my 10+ year journey of working for myself.

So why pet photography? Simple: It’s what I’ve always truly wanted to do.

I used to think no one would hire me, or anyone, to take photos of their pets, or them with their pets. Photographers were for “fancy events” like weddings and special occasions, right? Surely not for pets?

And then I got my first dog, my beloved Perry who is now almost 10 years old and for the last 8 has been the absolute joy of my life. Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids and my husband and even guacamole too, but, well, you get it. You’re an animal person too.

I believe animals bring out the best in us, especially dogs. And I’m here to document that pure spirit every day.

MY VALUES

001.

HONESTY

The price you pay for a session is it, seriously! I’d be happy to show you samples of wall art, enlargements, prints, mugs, and other merch that your new photos would look great on – but it’s entirely optional. No hard selling pressure here.

002.

YOUR PET’S HAPPINESS COMES FIRST

If your dog is agile and willing to go for it, sure, we’ll capture some of my favourite poses. But I would never force your dog to do something uncomfortable. Sessions are meant to be fun for everyone!

003.

NATURAL BEAUTY REIGNS

When possible, I prefer to shoot dogs in natural settings like parks or outdoor areas. I also retouch my images, but not over-processed or “fake.” The emphasis is on their natural perfection. πŸ™‚
